What is Proposition 65, and why do we employ this warning?
California's Proposition 65 ("Prop 65") is a consumer right-to-know law.
Prop 65 requires products sold in California to bear a warning label if: (1) the product contains a chemical(s) known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm; and (2) persons are knowingly or intentionally exposed to the chemical (3) above strong certain safe harbor levels when using or consuming the product.
In general, the list of chemicals that fall under Proposition 65 contain a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. These chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be by-products of chemical processes, such as motor vehicle exhaust.
